Welcome Canadian Volunteer Teachers!
Werner and Joanne De Jong are looking forward to serving at Meserete Kristos College during the 2018 fall semester. The De Jongs will be on a short-term mission assignment with Mennonite Church Canada, seconded to Eastern Mennonite Missions. Werner, who serves as the pastor of Holyrood Mennonite Church in Edmonton, Alberta, is grateful to the congregation for granting him a Sabbatical leave. He will be teaching two courses: Spiritual Formation to second year students, and Anabaptist History and Thought to fourth year students. Joanne anticipates mentoring students on an individual basis.
This will be the De Jong’s first visit to Ethiopia. Werner states: “We see this as a wonderful opportunity to engage with the global church. We have so much to learn from our brothers and sisters in the Meserete Kristos Church, a dynamic, rapidly growing body, where the Spirit of God is moving in fresh and powerful ways. We also hope to be a blessing among those whom we serve.” Joanne adds: “I am really excited to get to know the women at MKC. Women are such a vital part of the global church.” The De Jongs arrive in Ethiopia on September 10 and return to Edmonton on January 10, 2019.
