Campus Hosts Multiple Summer Activities
Once again, during the month of June, several block courses were given for regular students. Guest lecturers, Dr. Richard and Jewel Showalter of Irwin, OH, team taught a course on World Religions, and Dr. Helen Walker, returned a second summer from Messiah College to teach a sophomore class on English reading and writing.
As usual, during the summer months the campus became a welcoming retreat center for many different groups in need of a friendly and convenient venue for their meetings, trainings, workshops, or retreat activities. For example, this summer, in a seven week period, July 14 to September 3, the College hosted 13 different groups for varying lengths of time. Among them were MKC regional or congregational staff retreats. One group came from the Kale Hiywot denomination. Others were para-church NGO staff retreats. Over 100 freshman students, preparing to enter universities, came for an inspirational get together. In total, about 946 participants graced the campus during those seven weeks. Utilizing the campus facilities during the summer break serves as a blessing to many participants, and also helps to raise much needed income for the College.
